It all started with three elementary school teachers sitting in the break room at lunch every day, daydreaming about volunteering with elephants in Thailand. At the time, seemed like a pipe dream.
The following summer, we went.
It was life changing!
I think sometimes we forget there's a big world out there. I did. We get caught up in the daily hustle and bustle and that's it. When you immerse yourself into a completely different culture, it changes you. Forever. Anyone who's travelled can tell you that.
What we didn't foresee was how it would impact our students. They were so engaged. We shared pictures, maps, art, and stories. They asked questions and researched on their own. They told their parents and talked about it at lunch. It was amazing!
I thought, what if every teacher had this opportunity.
Since then, we have volunteered in India working with Wildlife SOS, Costa Rica at Projecto Montezuma teaching English, Peru working at a local school in a small village, and recently went to Zimbabwe volunteering with Imire Wildlife Conservation. 5 different countries with over 13 volunteers joining us. The experiences have been amazing and sharing with our students.... Life changing.
